My wife and I met Tommy Dobson in the summer of 2008. We had sold our home in Northern Virginia and were looking for a new or existing home in Charlottesville, VA. Having owned only one previous home, we were trying to do as much homework as possible to ensure we would be happy after the move. We stumbled upon Tommy’s model home in Forest View and instantly fell in love the single floor plan and open layout of the Craig Homes model. The day we met Tommy in the Forest Lakes, we immediately liked his open mindedness and attentive nature. He was very supportive of our design change ideas and often incorporated them at no cost or without immediately requiring a change order.
We then began a search for an appropriate home site. We found a beautiful lot in Western Ridge and asked Tommy if he could place a Centennial there. With some very creative use of the trapezoidal-shaped lot, he succeeded and we signed the contract. Since we had never built a home before, we were a little apprehensive. But we needn't be. From the moment we signed the contract, Tommy Dobson was attentive, responsive, and nothing short of wonderful. He immediately returned phone calls and was intimately involved in the building process. He often was an eager participant in our design modifications along the way and he immediately took action to resolve any issue he discovered, as well as the little things we observed along the way
Our home was delivered exactly on schedule and cost. Everyone that walks through our front door says the same thing. “This is a beautiful house.” And Tommy Dobson is the reason why. He was profoundly patient with us and his attention to detail has been proven over and over in the first 6 months of our occupancy. Tommy has consistently dispatched a team of professionals to fix the little things we have found, often the next day Our home was built very solidly and is a tribute to the first class subcontractors Tommy uses. Our interaction with the subcontractors when Tommy wasn't present always turned into a discussion of his superb management, personal skills, and professional craftsmanship.
We do not intend to move or build another home, but if we did, we would only have one builder: Tommy Dobson. He is a true professional whose word is as good as gold. He delivers a quality product and is completely focused on customer satisfaction. We were blessed the day we met Tommy in Forest Lakes. In the five months it took to build our home, we never experienced a single second of frustration. Tommy and his wife and business partner Christine are a perfect team. We had the pleasure of building our dream home with Tommy Dobson from Dobson Homes, Inc. We had built 3 other homes in the past 20 years but this has been by far the most pleasant and worry-free experience ever. Here’s what we think are some of the advantages of building with Dobson Homes:
Personal Care: In addition to being a very outgoing, caring, considerate, and thoughtful individual, Tommy stays closely in touch with his customers’ needs from the very beginning to the end. We have had numerous personal meetings with Tommy to go over most detail aspects of the house. Tommy builds each house as if it is his own, placing every level of personal care and attention.
Organization: This is the first time that we have ever seen a builder to be so organized that he stays on top of every detail during construction. A special binder developed by Tommy will contain all the details of your unique home from specs to pricing to letters and emails exchanged between the owners and the builder.
Attention to Details: From a tiny nail on a stud to major structural components, Tommy pays significant attention to every level of detail during the construction phase. His sense of accuracy and attention to quality is truly outstanding!
Prompt Follow Up/Follow Through: Every time that we either called Tommy regarding a question or emailed him, he courteously returned our call or email right away! Plus, his follow-through with any outstanding issues is truly exemplary.
Budget: We had a very tight budget to build this house with. Tommy patiently worked with us on several aspects of the house to ensure that we can complete the construction of the house on budget.
Flexibility: Our house required many customized features. We found Tommy to be not only flexible in changing some of the standard features but also very creative in recommending unique solutions that we would have never thought of.
Use of Quality Products/Crew: All materials used in the construction of the house as well as all equipment and features used were of the highest quality in the market. You can rest assured that only the best and most reliable products will go into any homes made by Tommy Dobson. Further, Tommy is very selective when it comes to choosing his crew. We found his crew to be a group of skillful, quality-minded, and accommodating people.
Construction Timeline: With so much involved in building a house, we were amazed that Dobson Homes, Inc. completed the construction of our house in such a short period of time (only 5 months!) and right on-time. Thanks to Tommy’s strong project management skills, every crew’s work was completed as scheduled.
After-Construction Support: Tommy’s involvement with his customers do not end with the completion of the house. For any issues after the completion of the construction, Tommy is very much in touch with his customers to make sure they receive excellent care. We had a couple of minor adjustments needed after moving in. Tommy sent the appropriate crew to fix the problem the next day! This is truly outstanding and rare in today’s market.
In summary, we truly enjoyed our building experience with Dobson Homes, thanks to the efforts of its owner, Tommy Dobson. He will be our friends forever and if we ever decide to build a 5th house, he will be our builder without a doubt!
